Happy Holidays to all! Yesterday birded Indian Hammocks, MDC Env. Center and parts of Horse Country from 7-11:45 AM. Had a busy afternoon schedule so unfortunately I had to rush through my areas. Still, had some nice surpises, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak and a Wilson's Warbler at MDC Env. Center, both females. The Wilson's is my Florida first. Indian Hammocks was very slow at first until I came across a mixed flock of about 7 species of warblers, 2 vireo species and gnatcatchers. Had a total of 13 warbler species for the day and all 3 possible vireos. Indian Hammocks also gave me a good variety of raptors and I witnessed a Red-shouldered Hawk chase off a Merlin that was feeding on what looked like a dove. I also birded Baptist Hospital lakes and started off 1st thing in the morning at the Mitred Parakeet roost near Dadeland. I did miss some common birds such as Black Vulture and Common Grackle. Total of 63 species with 1054 individual birds.
