Dotty Robbins and I birded the sparrow fields first thing in the morning and had the following highlights:
King Rail (seen well!)
Savannah Sparrow
Grasshopper Sparrow
Lincoln's Sparrow (multiple, feeding along edge of taller grass)
Swamp Sparrow (multiple, feeding along edge of taller grass)
A stop at the Chekika Unit of Everglades National Park later in the morning included a large feeding flock composed of Great Crested Flycatcher (2), Yellow-rumped Warbler (30+), Palm Warbler (~10), and Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Small feeding flocks encountered elsewhere included singles of Prairie Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, and American Redstart. A flushed American Bittern (old swimming pool) and three Wilson's Snipe (wet edges of parking lot), plus a dark morph Short-tailed Hawk soaring overhead capped off the morning.
