Now that the company's left, I have some time and managed to hike out to Mt. Everglades, past gate 5, on Research Rd. The body of water north of the hill had a pair of Hooded Mergansers and 4 Ring-necked Ducks. They appeared to be females or young. The larger, southern body of water had about 30 American Coots and 6-7 Pied-billed Grebes. Other birds noted on the hike out & back are as follows:
Belted Kingfisher 2
Turkey Vulture 17
Black Vulture 3
Great Blue Heron 3
Little Blue Heron 3
Great Egret 6
Snowy Egret 1
Wilson's Snipe 1 fly-over
Great Horned Owl 1 Heard
Barn Swallow 4
Tree Swallow 8
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 1
House Wren 1 on the hill
American Crow 8
Northern Mockingbird 1
Gray Catbird 1
Palm Warbler 8
Yellow-rumped Warbler 10
Red-wing Blackbird ~100 flew in sawgrass to roost?
Time spent: 1.5 hrs, from 3:45 pm to 5:15 pm
