At Markham Park on Thurs., I saw what I thought might be the bird I first posted as a Winter Wren. It quickly flew down before I approached. This morning I saw what I believe was the same bird,on the same Cypress tree, and it flew down to the same area by the little bridge. It was clearly a House Wren. Given the probability of a Winter Wren being this far south and in this type of habitat,I see I was way to quick to id the bird and post it,especially since I had no collaberators with me or a photo. What I wonder is,after looking at so many wrens at Markham over the last several years, what told my brain that this bird looked so different.Perhaps the angle of the bird obscured the tail, and the bird may have seemed darker to me than it actually was. Size should have been a major consideration, also. Anyway,to those who emailed me or offered a follow-up post, your points are well taken. I would not want anyone wasting time and gas chasing a phantom bird on my account. I guess it's off to Florida Caverns and Torreya to look for my lifer Winter Wren. In the meantime, serve me up some crow(Fish Crow-I'm a light eater).
