C-111 this morning

As Trey posted, me and Carlos went to the C-111 this morning in hopes of finding some sparrows in the nearby fields, and maybe take another look at that little red bird on the fence. When we arrived, it seemed everything was coming to the fence. The light was low, but we still had good looks at the Vermilion Flycatcher, Lark Sparrow, Dickcissel, and Western Kingbird all on the same fence. God I love birding in Texas!

In the nearby brush Carlos quickly spotted a Chipping Sparrow. This species is a veritable pest up north, but down here is not too common. We drove slow on the main road towards Lucky Hammock and spotted a Vesper Sparrow, also on the fence, on the south side of the road. The driver, which will remain nameless, decided HE wanted an angle for a photo, while I tried to convince this certain person to turn the other way so that I may have an angle for a photo. In the process, the bird flew off and neither of us got a photo. I hope you're happy, whoever you are.

Other species for the morning included White-tailed Kite, Swainson's Hawk, Grasshopper and Savannah Sparrows, and we finished off with a Ruddy Duck at Cutler Wetlands.

No, I was not skipping work. I had maxed out my vacation time and needed to take a day off.
