I went out with a spotlight tonight & had a Nightjar perch on a flagpole in my yard. Bird was making a soft "whit--whit" sound. I caught it with the spotlight and noticed large white margins on the tail, so I think you are right, it's a Eastern Whip-poor-will. If I can figure out how to get the recording off my iTouch & on to my computer, maybe I can share the calls it was making earlier this evening. Thanks for the help.
