Yesterday and today there has been a drab adult Bell's Vireo hanging close with a White-eyed Vireo. An American Wigeon showed up in one of the small ponds on campus yesterday but must have moved on. It was nowhere to be found today. Owls seem to be on the move. Today at sunset a small Owl was seen flying in the orange sky. A Great-horned Owl was a new species on campus for us. We presume that this bird is a migrant since we have neither heard nor seen any Owls on campus besides Screech Owl. Last but not least a Swainson's Warbler was pished up. This records our latest date for this seldomly seen species.
DERM has been changing the habitat around our birding spots making it quite challenging to find Sparrows. After having seen two Clay-colored and one Lark Sparrow two weeks ago we have come up short everday since. A Ruby-crowned Kinglet was great to see today, may have been the same bird that showed up the same day as the Sparrows.
A cold front will make its way south into our region by Fri-Sat, be on the lookout for new arrivals. It will be interesting to see what species show up together this weekend. Fall migration has been full of surprises thus far, keep your eyes and ears open.
Nature is Awesome
