On late Friday afternoon, Friday, December 7, 2001, David LaPuma and I located the Bell's Vireo and an adult Lincoln Sparrow in the tangle of brush on the south side of the "Lucky Hammock" just outside of Everglades NP. Take the first paved road to the Youth Camp heading south from 9336 outside the park, the hammock is ~1/4 mile down on the right). Both birds were found by pishing softly. The Lincoln's was giving its' chip note. Be forewarned that Dove hunting season begins on Saturday, December 8. The millet fields on both side of the road are fair game for the hunters, so you should excercise extreme caution when birding in the area. Other birds seen in the area:

Swainson's Hawk ( 6 Light Juveniles & 1 Light Adult) Standing in farm field to the east
Wilson's Warbler (Male) Constantly chipping
Black-throated Green Warbler (HY male)
Grasshopper Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow
Limpkin
Sandhill Cranes (2 doing mating ritual) Standing in farm field to the east

The celebratory libation of choice was Negra Modelo, a nice Mexican dark. Life is good...............
