The other thing to realize is that NC pelagics are very frequent. The large scale ones in FL are what, 4 times a year? Brian Patteson goes out for weeks at a time in the summer, and almost every weekend. Increase the frequency, increase the probability of finding a mega rarity. As an aside, if you haven't done a pelagic off NC, I highly recommend them! I was out this past winter in February and influx of Alcids from the north was astounding. It's pretty neat to be 10 feet away from a Dovekie, Razorbill, or Atlantic Puffin sitting on the water. I've been on several of Michael Brothers' pelagics. I was lucky to see Red-billed Tropicbird on my first one (The Nov 2007 trip listed in the original thread).
