This afternoon, I visited the South Miami residence where Joe Barros discovered a Cuban Bullfinch yesterday. Joy was still present when I arrived; the bullfinch arrived a few minutes after Joy left.
From there, I decided to survey another section of East Kendall for the Miami-Dade Exotics Count. I covered the quadrant just west of the Palmetto Expressway that includes Kenwood K-8 Center on SW 79 Avenue. In a tree in the Pepperwood development across the street from the school, I found a flock of 17 Red-whiskered Bulbuls. The flock eventually flew north towards Kendall Drive, allowing an exact count. I then drove around the area for about an hour; other exotics seen included:
Egyptian Goose-9
Monk Parakeet-20
Mitred Parakeet-13
I finished my survey in the neighborhood north of Kendall Drive and east of SW 87 Avenue, where I found a flock of bulbuls numbering about the same as the Pepperwood flock seen earlier; I suspect these were the same birds.
I hope I'm not the only one doing these surveys!
