Today, while on business at Fairchild (in the oaks around the old entrance) I saw an odd black-throated blue. It was a male, but with white extending right up to it's throat and beak, otherwise it had black from the sides of it's face and cheeks down across its sides. It also had sharp white eye crecents, rather like a yellow-throated. It had a blue back, but the middle part had a green cast. On it's white belly, there was a light yellow cast around the vent. Otherwise, the white hankerchief and other black-throated blue marks were present. I got very good close range looks at 'him'. It was very active, eating insects mostly from the undersides of leaves, actually not behaving much like a black-throated blue. Any ideas of what it was? Maybe a hybrid?
Otherwise there was a nice flock there including yellow-throated vireo, several Tenessees, parula, Cape May, palm, redstart, black-throated green (heard) and a blotchy red and orange summer tanager.
