On Friday August 5th. I had the following birds in the plowed farms west of s.w. 217 ave and north of the road that goes into Everglades National Park:
Great Yellowlegs 8
Lesser Yellowlegs 50
Pectoral Sandpiper hundreds
Ruddy Turnstone 3
Upland Sandpiper 3
Least Sandpiper 17
Black-bellied Plover 1
Killdeer lots
Solitary Sandpiper 1
On Friday I saw an AMETHYST HAIRSTREAK butterfly found on Thursday August 5 by Roger Hammer at Castellow Hammock Park. There are perhaps two or more that are still be seeing as of today Saturday 7th. This is a very, very rare butterfly on the same level as a Bahama Woodstar Hummingbird. How many Bahama Woodstar Hummingbirds as any one seen in the last 20 years? Two birds were found by Roger Hammer in 1981 and confirmed with photographs.
The Amethyst Hairstreaks are being seen in the butterly garden next to the walkway going into the visitor center. Look in the area of the Spanish Needle plants at the southwest side of the butterfly garden. Also look for the very small white flowering shrubs on the southeast side.
Below are two photos of the Amethyst Hairstreak.

Notice the beautiful blue on the upper abdomen.
