Braved the rain, thunder, and lightning and birded Bill Baggs from 11a-2p.
Despite getting soaked, we actually had a pretty good turnout of birds, though not as good as reports from the past few days indicated. Also ran into Brenda, Steve, and Nancy, who were equally sopping wet but having fun! We stuck mainly to the paved path that runs south from No Name harbor, and spent the last 45 minutes around the lighthouse. Many birds whizzed across the trail and lighting conditions were dark so probably missed a few species ID's!
Most numerous birds were ovenbirds (100+), catbirds (50+), and palm warblers (30+).
Palm warbler (30)
American Redstart (12)
Black-and-white warbler (20)
Common yellowthroat (2)
Ovenbird (100)
Black-throated blue warbler (15)
Northern Parula warbler (2)
Cape May Warbler (1)
White-eyed vireo (3)
Red-eyed vireo (3)
Yellow-throated vireo (1)
Philadelphia vireo (1)
Yellow-billed cuckoo (8)
Blue-grey gnatcatcher (4)
Catbird (50+)
Cardinal (8)
Eastern wood pewee (1)
Painted bunting (3)
Summer tanager (2)
Great crested flycatcher (1)
And a smattering of Kingfishers, cormorants, ibis, pelicans, and gulls.
Too bad have to go back to work tomorrow, but will try again Friday!!
