Today, while I was driving a road behind the aviary at the zoo, I spotted a Cooper's hawk flying with a Bufo in it's talons. I followed it and found it trying to kill and eat the toad. The toad inflated its body and the hawk struggled for 5 minutes before flying off. A curious squirrel came within 6 feet of the struggle. The toad was able to walk away with only a tiny bit of blood on its head. It appeared that the hawk may have been repelled by the toad's taste.
