One of the Rangers at Bills Baggs State Park has placed signage for "The Bird" with an arrow pointing the way. There are also red cones leading down a trail, a second sign which says "Almost there" -- and, lastly, "You are Here." The "You are Here" sign is on the same strangler fig that Larry Manfredi placed the six-pack plastic holder. At about 8:30 this morning the Western Spindalis was first heard and then flew into the 'correct' tree. From 9 o'clock for the next l5 - 20 minutes the bird preened, ate fruit and pooped. Great non-binocular views of all these activities were witnessed by Ron Finch of Delaware, Bess of Canada and yours truly. My lesson learned: Get to the park when it opens at 8 A.M. instead of high noon. Thanks, Larry! :))
