Gary and I were able to see the Yellow-green Vireo this morning around 8:00 a.m. with a large group of birders. This was a lifer for us!!!
We then went down to Lucky Hammock and the Annex to see what was around. After a rainstorm passed around 9:30 a.m. it was very birdy at Lucky Hammock. We saw the following:
Red-shouldered Hawks
American Kestrel
Northern Harrier
Great-crested Flycatcher
Brown Thrasher
Painted Buntings - many males and females
Blue Grosbeak
Eastern Kingbird
Northern Flicker
Loggerhead Shrike
Common Ground Dove
Mourning Dove
Gray Catbirds
Northern Cardinal
Seven Warbler species: Common Yellowthroat(many males and females), American Redstart, Northern Parula, Palm, Prairie, Magnolia and Black & White
White-eyed Vireo
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
At the Annex we saw:
Little Blue Heron
Green Heron
Great Blue Heron
Belted Kingfisher
Osprey
Short-tailed Hawks (2)
White Ibis
Two more Warbler species:
Black-throated Blue(male) and Ovenbird
We also had 23 Sandhill Cranes fly by. We were glad to get some birding in before the deluge to come!!
