Went today to check out the Lesser Nighthawks reported from the Flamingo campground. They appeared at 5:45 sharp, at least a dozen of them, maybe as many as twenty. Many passed only a few feet above my head, giving me good looks at the more rounded wings, and wingbar closer to the wingtip than on a Common Nighthawk.
According to Pranty, no nighthawk has ever been verified in winter in Florida. These birds, should they stick around, would seem to make good candidates for photos or video, should anyone have the time or inclination.
