Large concentration of Sandpipers on the field north of SR9336 just west of 217th Avenue Sunday morning, 8/1. The field has some grass cover, and the grass was alive with sandpipers. My guess is in 1,000's. Mostly lesser yellowlegs and pectorals. Also seen that morning were upland, semipalmated, solitary, spotted, and one greater yellowlegs (in pond right at the turn to Lucky Hammock). The greater was in a small group of lessers, making ID easy. Lucky Hammock had nothing, but the sandhills were in the field on the east. The Annex had an eastern kingbird, some B/G gnatcatchers, black-whiskered vireo, and a cuckoo that flew across the road but I wasn't able to get an ID on it. A good shorebird person might be able to spot othere species in the area. Worth a visit before they move off. Bring mosquito spray! Good luck, and great birding!
