Miami-Dade is well known for its large number of exotic bird species, but knowledge of population numbers, ranges, and habitat usage is extremely lacking in the county.

With that said, Miami-Dade will be having its first Exotics Count starting within the next few weeks (stay tuned). Currently, I am requesting information from all birders as to the whereabouts of several different species:

Egyptian Goose
Purple Swamphen
Hill Myna
Red-whiskered Bulbul
Spot-breasted Oriole

If any of these species have been visiting your residential area, park, pond, golf course, shopping center, etc please email me location, date of sighting, and numbers at:

tsunamicarlos@gmail.com

By providing this information, you will be helping the progress of this exotic bird survey immensely.

Thank you.

Carlos
