On an evening walk about last night at Hoechoka Hammock I encountered a chuck-wills-widow that had a tough time moving the call from "chuck". Just persistent "chucking" then moved to "chuck-wills" than finally after about four minutes to the whole call. Very much as a reluctant motor would sound when unable to catch.
