Hi Folks,

I'm tired. I haven't had time or energy to post much lately, but I'll get this out before my next Big Day adventure.

Monday the 19th, I made a quick run through the 'cane and rice fields of Palm Beach and Hendry Counties. I found the following fields:

CR827 0.7 mi. west of US 27 - This field is drying up. The whistling ducks from earlier in the summer are gone.
CR827 east side of Miami Canal - Newly flooded field. Too high for shorebirds now, but worth keeping an eye on.
Clewiston west of Wal Mart north of SR80 - this field has been flooded all summer. Should be good when it comes down.
Brown's Farm Road (dead end road heading south from CR880 in PB county.) Large flooded field on the east side about four miles south of CR880.
Miami Sod Farms - About five miles south of CR880 on Brown's Farm Road. Go west a short distance to a road leading south (left.) Head down this road to a large field on the west (right.) This field was perfect on Monday. It may be gone now. There were several Stilt sandpipers, Pectoral, Least and Western sandpipers, Lesser yellowlegs, and Short-billed dowitchers. With more time, I may have found more. Also, there were several species of swallows along the powerlines including N. Rough-winged, Purple martin, Tree, Barn, and Bank swallows. A juvenile Cliff/Cave swallow was sighted along Miami canal as well.

Atlantic Sugar Association (formerly Gem Chai Rice Farms) south of CR 880 east of Brown's Farm Road.
A very ripe rice field about 1/4 mile south of CR880 hosted both species of whistling ducks and Purple swamphens.
Rice field about two miles south - Black-bellied whistling ducks flying over.
Flooded field about six miles south - Both whistling ducks and about 50 white pelicans. The water is too high for shorebirds now, but it should be good later.

I don't have the gazetteer handy, but if you look in the area south of Lake Okechobee, you should be able to find all of these roads.

Also, I had at least 31 Barn owls along 827 west of US27 (Bolles Canal) and from STA 5 to Clewiston the night before.

That's all for now folks. I'll be back in the fields next week.
