I felt cheated out of a good day of birding on Key Biscayne, so I decided to bird my place instead. After all, I can be abused by mosquitoes here at home, instead of driving all the way to Bill Baggs Park for the same privilege. The bugs were wicked, as they chewed their way through the DEET to get to my blood, but the birds were just as wicked. After 1-1/2 hrs. of mosquito-dancing, I was rewarded with some nice birds. Highlights were 2 FOS Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, a female Summer Tanager, and a Red-shouldered Hawk that flew in & landed about 20' away from me. I got excellent views of the hawk preening, but traded off all the Warblers I was observing.
