BIRDS IN ART: EXHIBITION TAKES FLIGHT
MOA to Present Multi-media Exhibition
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL … The Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale (MOA) presents Birds in Art, a soaring celebration of birds beginning November 9, 2001 and running through January 6, 2002. The exhibition is comprised of winning entries from an international juried competition. The multi-media show contains sculptures and paintings, some of which impart humor and whimsy while others convey the harsh realities of nature. Peace and serenity permeate some of the art; power and tension infuse others.
Organized by The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, Wisconsin, the exhibition is a celebration of 25 years of avian artistic adventures for the Woodson Art Museum. The show contains
More than 50 works created by artists from around the United States and 11 other countries. The multi media show includes oils, acrylics, works on paper and bronze, stone and wood sculptures.
Woodson Art Museum Director Kathy Foley is thrilled with the variety, complexity and beauty of works submitted for Birds in Art. Foley explained “works selected for the 25th anniversary exhibition represent a new high in artistry. From vast panoramic views to finely detailed up-close studies and from intricate carvings to abstracted bronzes, Birds in Art 2000 includes something for every artistic taste and bird watching fancy.”
Jurors representing the Fort Wayne, Indiana, Museum of Art, Hiram Blauvet Art Museum, Oradell, New Jersey and Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina reviewed work by 535 artists, selecting 99 for inclusion in this Silver Edition Exhibition. The exhibition also includes works by fifteen past Woodson Masters. The exhibition highlights works by several well-known aviary artists including Carl Brenders, Mark Eberhard, Nancy Howe, David Rankin, Robert Bateman, Tony Angell and Paula Waterman.
The exhibition is underwritten by the Ralph A. & Jeanine M. Marrinson Foundation, Mr. & Mrs.
Joseph F. Smith, Jr. and Northern Trust Bank.
