Ernie Lent the senior naturalist at the estate first saw the bird yesterday (7/14/04). He told me this morning about it and I was a little upset because I have never seen a BALD EAGLE before. We saw it today again and I was very excited, because I got a great look at it. It was an adult eagle. It landed on a royal palm and then it soared at about 50ft from the ground. So the view was awesome. It only stayed for a few minutes, but it will stay with me forever. I will never forget about this sighting. It’s my first Bald Eagle and it’s going in my life list too.

This is not a new sighing for the Deering Estate; it’s a new sighing for this year and for me too.

This is today’s list.

White Ibis- There’s a group of them. They’ve been here for a few days now. (4)
Double-crested Cormorant
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Brown Pelican
Great Egret
Northern Cardinal
Gary Kingbird- We have not seen this bird in long time.
Anhinga
Green Heron
White Crown Pigeon
Bold Eagle- NEW SIGHTING FOR THIS YEAR!!!!
