On 24 August I found this Semipalmated Sandpiper on Virginia Key. In addition to the green flag (indicating banded in the US), it sported 5 color bands. After a bit of research, I found out that it was banded this summer "on the nest" on the North Slope of Alaska near the Colville River Delta. The banders will furnish more details on the bird when they enter their data. It's a pretty amazing journey of >4,110 miles ---- and Virginia Key was just a stop-off point before it reaches its wintering grounds along the coast of South America.
