During fall migration, Blackpoll Warblers migrate south across the Atlantic Ocean en route to South America.
The only Blackpoll Warblers I have ever seen in south Florida during the fall were after strong northeast winds. I'm sure you are spot on about the hurricane having an influence on their appearance in the area this time of year.
