I made a quick trip out to Snake Bight late this afternoon and saw
27 Greater Flamingos. They were in two groups, the nearer one
had 16 birds and was along the north shore of the bight , they were
well within binocular range and could be seen in detail at 20x. The
more distant one had 11 birds and was well off to the east but they
were easy to identify at 20x. Other birds near the end of the trail
included 25 Roseate Spoonbills, 1 American Avocet, 23 Black-
necked Stilts and the usual mix of coastal waders and shorebirds.
There wasn't much of interest along the trail but I did see 10 White-
crowned Pigeons. Near sunset hundreds of American White Pelicans crowded onto the sandbar off the visitors center.
Yesterday, 11/6, there were at least three immature Swainson's Hawks soaring over the west end of C-Loop in the Flamingo camping areas during the late morning as well as 2 dark and 1 light phase Short-tailed Hawks over the marina during mid afternoon.
