When taking a morning walk in the Hammocks area of W. Kendall I was surprised to see 2 young Cooper's Hawks sitting on the edge of a parking lot. They seemed too uncertain of themselves to be out on their own. I thought that a parent must be around somewhere. A couple of minutes later a balled-up Starling flock drew my attention to an adult Cooper's overhead.
These hawks seem to have expanded their range south in recent years.
