: : Description: built like a kingfisher, but has a yellow breast, with a fiery red head with white "ears" and it's back and tail feathers appear to be black with white polka dots. It's song is a ceaseless flute-like tee-tyew, tee-tyew, tee-tyew with the stress on the second half. Have never seen or heard this bird before and cannot find it in any book. Can anyone out there identify it? Thanks.

: It could be a Red and Yellow Barbet (trachyphonus erythrocephalus), from semi-arid scrublands of east Africa. Look in the Collins field guide to Birds of East Africa.

Thank you so much, Frank! That's exactly what it is...a Red and Yellow African Barbet. I searched for a photo online and it's an exact match.
So, what's up with him? Do you think he most likely was released or escaped? Would he normally be the type of bird a person would've kept as a pet? Could he have flown here??
Thanks again.
