An incredible day of birding out in the Palm Beach Sod Farms today. Jose Padilla, Tom Obrock & Bob Pelkey and I saw many of the same birds everyone has been seeing out there except the numbers have increased a lot on most species and a few new species were seen. We saw an incredible 16 Upland Sandpipers at Six Mile Bend Sod Farms "up close and personal, having been allowed to drive the dirt lanes that traverse this property. Four others were seen at the King Ranch. A total of 17 species of shorebirds were seen in all with 15+ Wilson's Phalaropes at the location 1.5 miles east of the Duda property on CR880 being another highlight. Six species of terns were also seen including Black Skimmers and Forster's Terns along with the many Black Terns, Gull-billed Terns and a few Least Terns. Hundreds of Roseate Spoonbills, with 3-4 banded ones, were seen off of Brown's Farm Road. Both whistling-ducks were present on Sam Senter Rd. but not in great numbers. We saw three Barn Owls at the Miami Canal site as well as five species of swallows including a few Tree Swallows, Purple Martins, Cliff & Bank Swallows along with the ubiquitous Barn Swallows. These were the highlights but there were many more birds seen but I'm too tired right now to report all of them!
