This field is a mile or mile and one half west of the main entrance to Ave Maria on CR858 aka Oil Well Rd. If you were coming to this location from the Tamiami Trail aka USRTE 41, when you get to SR29, turn right and go north all the way to CR858 aka Oil Well Rd. then turn left. Once on CR858, go past the main entrance to Ave Maria about one mile or more until you enter the road construction zone area. Once you get to Oil Well Grade Rd. (dirt road), the wet field where these birds are found is just beyond that intersection on the north side of CR858. There is a wide paved sidewalk that makes it really easy to view the birds. However, you will need a scope to see these Wood Ducks and other shorebirds as they are "out there". I was there again yesterday and there was much more water in the fields due to recent heavy rains.
