This morning at around 10:00AM, I observed a very drab vireo along the service road on the west side of Matheson Hammock, seemingly associating with a small feeding flock that included Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, American Redstarts, and a Red-eyed Vireo. I believed the bird to be a Thick-billed Vireo due to the very uniformly drab undersides and large bill (relative to White-eyed Vireo). The only real color related fieldmark that I observed was the bright yellow supraloral.

I quickly called several birders about my find. Larry Manfredi joined me on a return visit to Matheson Hammock to take photos and video (sound) recordings of the bird to document and confirm its identity. We found it further along the service road this time, where the tropical hardwood hammock's canopy opens up the vegetation becomes more of a tropical scrub.

Otherwise, passerine migrants were pretty sparse across the park.
