Will be heading out of town in a bit, but thought I would check up on here. There is little else I can say that Nancy hasn't mentioned, other than that the FWC number I was given by contacting the number given by RJ was 305-956-2500, and the case number that I was given yesterday, which, presumably by now should be closed, was #6255. One thing though, while Nancy and I were there by the burrows, one of the maintenance personel mentioned that the owls use the burrows, but fly to the trees when it gets too hot. I'm not sure if that is indeed the reason that they go to the trees, or perhaps that by the time they decide to head there there is already a great deal of traffic traversing the path near the burrows. But then it occurred to me that the lone owl that belongs to the burrow within the fenced area does not take to the trees, but in fact stays within the burrow and seems to come above-ground only occassionally to check for predators (or prospective prey?). The temperature within their burrows should be even cooler than that in the shade, assuming they are deep enough, so I would think that perhaps the family would prefer the burrows were the situation different. However, since they are a family of 7, perhaps there is not enough space for all of them, and their body heat heats up the burrow, and since they might prefer to be together, they all take to the trees. Well, this is all conjecture on my part, but just voicing my thoughts, in case someone out there can has some input. At any rate, I will try to post as new developments arise, but rest assured, that once I come back to town on sunday, I will be keeping a much closer eye on the situation, not that there is much I can do, but hopefully there will be a good ending to all of this.
