Hmmm.....you raise an interesting question. We were basing the identification on the color and extent of color at the base of the bill. A touch of red for the bird I have as Roseate and more extensive orange for the birds I have as Forster's. I'm certainly no tern ID expert, and would be interested to see other's comments about this. I have some other pictures of those birds, I'll post them soon.
