I spent the day around the Belle Glade area and found some pretty good birds. After I scared off a family of Fulvous Whistling Ducks, Kevin and Paul drove up, and the ducks, wanting a closer look at them, came right back. Or maybe they wanted a beer.

The Brown's Farm Road fields had become Brown's Farm Lakes, and not good for shorebirds, not even phalaropes. When you see an anhinga neck sticking out in the middle of a field, the water has to be pretty deep. There were several Spotted Sandpipers around the edges, some even with spots.

STA 1w was pretty dead, but the best place in the area today was Gladeview Road (Roth Sod). The first impoundment had good water levels and there were Dowitchers, Gull-billed
Tern, Black Tern, lots of Stilt Sandpipers (still in mostly breeding plumage, but only one with a rufous cheek), Least, Western, and 2 Pectorals. I briefly had a Hudsonian Godwit, but while I was focusing the camera, it turned itself into a Lesser Yellowlegs. Pesky bird.

I was also surprised to find a flock of 30-40 Black-crowned Night Herons along the canal on Gladeview. As the water levels draw down, looks like a good year for shorebirds.
