Typically I find the water between 3-4 feet at the deepest point when I cross (backpack is fine). I'm 6 feet tall and once I had to hold my camera bag over my head, so perhaps that was the peak high tide. It always makes the trip a little more adventurous when you have to wade back across after sunset!
