They could be Northern yellow bats. There's a breeding population of them living in the canopy of the royal palms that line my road swale, plus there are evening bats living in the canopy of some sabal palms in my yard. The Florida Bat Association folks came down from Tampa several years ago with some sophisticated equipment that identified them from their sonar. Just a few weeks ago my neighbor cut down a big Washingtonia palm in his yard and there was a Northern yellow bat with a baby clinging to her. I put them in an abandoned screech owl nest hole and the mother flew off with the baby attached later that day at dusk. Northern yellow bats are somewhat larger than evening and free-tailed bats.
