It's not a bird sighting, but you might find it interesting. I took this from my balcony around 7am this morning. The black dot is Venus crossing the sun's disk. The last time this happened was 1882. Capt. Cook saw it from Tahiti in 1769. If you missed it, you'll get another chance in June 2012. After that, the next one is in 2117.
This was photographed using a Thousand Oaks solar filter. If you don't have a quality filter, you shouldn't be pointing optics at the sun.
