Two weeks ago we located a Purple Martin roost which we feel is the same roost we have been following for three years now. We started to see more and more Martins on a daily basis about three weeks ago and decided to go out and look for the roost. The roost has been located in a bank parking lot in NW Dade for the last three years, but this year we found the roost 2.5 miles southeast from that location. The roost is now located at the Home Depot parking lot in Hialeah. The birds start to arrive during the late afternoon hours and by 8:20 or so they are in full force. Last week we observed over 15,000 Purple Martin at the roost. We have been able to track the roost by use of radar and will be posting some images to our Badbirdz2 site soon.

If you would like to experience thousands of Purple Martin overhead in one small place visit the Home Depot on NW 57 Ave and the 826 Palmetto Expressway. The best place to park is on the north side of the parking lot closer to the tire shop. The birds seem to pick trees that are lit up by artificial lighting rather than the trees that are in the dark after the sunsets.

It is an amazing experience, don t miss it!
