While walking around Morningside Park today after school (school lets out early since we have Finals this week), I discovered another SBO nest. The nest is located in a tree about 25 feet tall, and in front of 621 N.E. 56th Street. The tree is located on the median across from the house. The nest is about 15-20 feet high. I could not see any eggs or young in the nest, but an oriole in the area responded to my oriole imitations.
A Cooper's Hawk soared around the mangroves, and probably the young of last year's brood. Mitred and White-winged Parakeets were seen. Common Myna were seen just outside of the neighborhood's property. An added bonus was seeing a small group of Yellow-crowned Night-heron juveniles huddled in the mangroves. A Prairie Warbler called.
