While attending my three-year old grandson, Johnathan's, third birthday party at Tree Tops Park in Davie this morning, a beautiful, adult, dark morph Short-tailed Hawk soared over our heads as my two grandsons - (Sebastian's two) - thoroughly enjoyed riding two Shetland ponies, oblivious to this early fall migrant. Johnathan was dressed like Buzz Lightyear and Sebastian like Woody from the film classic, Toy Story. Several Rough-winged Swallows enjoyed dive-bombing the hawk.
While dolphin fishing on Saturday, the 16th, we boated a 28, 18 and 8-pound Dolphin in 1100 feet of water east of Fowey Light and the 18-pound Skipjack Tuna that we caught on a downrigger, provided us with delicious Sashimi the past two days. No rice - too fattening! Most of the pelagic birds that we saw were at this depth including Brown Boobies (3), Northern Gannets (2) Cory's Shearwater (1), Audubon's Shearwater (1), Wilson's Phalaropes (2), Magnificent Frigatebird (1), Bridled Terns (25) and Sooty Terns (15). Several Barn Swallows were also on the move. A greyhounding Atlantic Sailfish, Bottlenose Dolphin, Loggerhead Turtles and a large Spotted Ray were also seen.
Finally, I saw two adult Sea Cows grazing on St. Augustine grass centipeding into the water along the canal bank at W. 49th St. and W. 4th Avenue in Hialeah last Friday, the 15th, while driving home from work. I am happy to report no prop scars on either of these two beautiful mammalian protuberances.
Life is good..................fishing, birding and having beautiful grandsons!
