While my heart is really at Ft. De Soto and Sanibel today, my consolation was Mickey and Jills suspect La Sagras Flycatcher. It is easily seen and stays in one spot for minutes at a time. While it vocalizes infrequently, it is a distinct fairly sharp, high-pitched WEET. The long, dark bill is noticible, as is the rufous tinge in the tail. The breast and upper belly are very light with a faint yellow wash on the lower belly and flanks. The wings were held at a downward angle, and I was unable to notice any rufous edging. My experience with La Sagras is more limited than Mickey and Jills, but I saw nothing today in all the field marks to indicate anything other than La Sagras.
As you enter the park, turn right and park in the first large parking area. The bird was in the large oak bordering the north side of the parking lot. It regurgitated a berry, so it must be feeding in the fruiting Stangler Figs.
