A few days ago, while walking back from my bus stop after school towards my house, I stopped to watch a Spot-breasted Oriole sing from a Royal Palm. After about a minute, it flew down into a small oak (about 10 feet high). I walked close to the bird in the tree, and then noticed the fine woven nest near the base of the tree. Ever since, I have seen at least one of the birds sitting on the nest. As many may know, the SBOR is a hit-or-miss bird, and can be frustrating to find. Well, this is a great site for visiting birders looking for this Miami Specialty, and anyone interested in checking out an easy way to find this bird and get great looks should contact me at Alex5836@AOL.com

I am not quite sure of the address on which the nest site is located, but it is in Miami Shores (close to the now famous White-winged Parakeet spot). I THINK the address is NE 115th 94th street, and the nest is in the front yard of the house. There is one other small oak in the yard, and the oak to the right is the one with the nest. Please do not tresspass onto the yard... not that you would really need to since the nest is so close the sidewalk and road. Again, if any out-of-towners are interested in looking for them, contact me and I will be able to meet up with you and look for the orioles, especially since there is the possibility that they could not be there.

David Simpson dropped by today and I managed to show him where to find White-winged Parakeets, the SBOR nest (with an oriole sitting on it), and the Burrowing Owls, all within 15 minutes. No doubt for Big Day scouting...
