For the last two years, I have been struck by the scarcity of Eurasian Collared Doves in my neighborhood, so much so that I re-installed my bird feeder in my yard, and for several months now there hasn't been a single Eurasian Collared Dove there. Instead, I am treated to Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, lots of White-winged Doves, and the occasional Common Grackle. I have three theories. 1) the collared doves attracted hawks, which drove out the collared doves by eating a bunch of them, 2) the collared doves peaked and were too abundant for this habitat to support and are now at more sustainable levels, or 3) white-winged doves are "winning." What do you guys think?
