Attention Dade County birders not yet taking part in the June Challenge. Yes, I mean both of you. We need your sightings if we are to keep up with the other counties. At the moment, we are only at 113, way behind where we were last year. Of course, our dismally poor migration and this awful drought are not helping, but there are still some species we should get. Here is a list of species still need. Most of the land birds on the list we had last year in June. I'm planning a pelagic trip tomorrow and another later in the month to hopefully add a few more. Please report if you see any of the following:

Wild Turkey
Northern Bobwhite
Cory's Shearwater
Greater Shearwater
Audubon's Shearwater
Wilson's Storm Petrel
Band-rumped Storm Petrel
Leach's Storm-Petrel
Brown Booby
Masked Booby
Northern Gannet
White-tailed Tropicbird
Red-billed Tropicbird
Least Bittern
Roseate Spoonbill
Snail Kite
Clapper Rail
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Sandhill Crane
Pomarine Jaeger
Herring Gull
Gull-billed Tern
Common Tern
Caspian Tern
Bridled Tern
Sooty Tern
Brown Noddy
Mangrove Cuckoo
Smooth-billed Ani
Eastern Screech Owl
Barred Owl
Black-whiskered Vireo
Seaside Sparrow
Shiny Cowbird
