I popped round Barnes today during my lunch break and found a pair of Swainson's Thrushes on the path past the cabins on your way to the nature trail. I saw the first one in the middle of the trail picking through the leaves. It flew to the right of the path and into a bush. Then a second thrush flew from the left side of the path to the right and perched on the black metal railing. I was able to get a decent photo that shows a bold whitish eye ring, distinct buffy "spectacles", buffy breast with dark spots, grayish-brown back and sides. I did not see the Connecticut Warbler where I found one last week in the understory west of the boardwalk and 72nd Avenue. Instead, I found a female Painted Bunting. On the other side of the park in the small grove of oak trees near the pool area, I found the Yellow-billed Cuckoo that has been recently sighted.

On the way back to work, I drove down Santa Maria and then University from Bird Road in search of the Swallow-tailed Kite I had seen soaring above the tree line in that area on my way to Barnes. I found a pair of kites nesting in the same Australian pine tree where this was reported a few years ago.
