After yesterday's fine T.A.S. birdwalk at A.D. Barnes Park in South Miami, I went down to Castellow Hammock County Park in Homestead. Despite the constant rains, the Rufous Hummingbird pair, first reported by Roger Hammer on October 17th, were still visiting the firebush (red tubular
flowers) and the necklace-pod (long spikes of yellow pea flowers) north of the nature center building. Other birds present there were several Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 13 White-winged Doves, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, one Northern Parula and a
group of gnatcatchers plus all of the "usuals".
It was nice seeing some of my TAS "friends" again and I hope to make it to more TAS birdwalks this winter. Who knows, I might even find someone from the Naples areawho wants to come along to accompany me!
Thanks to Gigi for leading the birdwalk and all others who loaned their talents in spotting and identifying them.
Good birding!
