May the 4th be with you!
Trey, Roxanned, Jeanette and I headed on my first pelagic trip of the season this morning with excellent sea conditions, too excellent as a matter of fact since birds were hard to find. But, we did manage a pretty decent morning, with the best find being a juvenile Red-footed Booy on Channel Marker #1 ~1.7 miles SE of the lighthouse on Key Biscayne. I wanted to give it some baitfish I had on board to see if we could get it to come close, but Trey reminded me that if we fed it, then we couldn't count it! We also had killer looks at an adult, light-morph Pomarine Jaeger that just didn't want to leave us alone. This was by far the friendliest jaeger I've ever seen. It found us, then landed near us as we drifted. When we tried to move, it would fly toward us and land again. If it had followed me home, I would have asked my wife it I could keep it.
Our morning's list of species seen:
Red-footed Booby
Brown Booby
Northern Gannet
Audubon's Shearwater
Pomarine Jaeger
Bridled Tern
Sooty Tern
