ANd JOhn, please know that you are always welcome here in Santa Barbara, should you ever come out west. I could show you some nice spots based on the birds you want to see.
Just got back from Georgia/North Florida and have fallen in love with the Scarlet Tanager. What a gorgeous bird! I wish I could get closer for some better photos. One came down to grab a bug and gave me a very brief opportunity at Kennesaw, north of Atlanta. What a great place that is for migrants, only too many people, cars, joggers, etc. Dug Gap, near Dalton, GA, was another excellent migrant trap with trees at eye level for easy viewing of warblers, etc. I picked up over ten new lifers on that trip, mostly warblers.
