About 10 birders joined me this morning for the TAS birdwalk at Matheson Hammock. There were early flyovers of apparent Palm and Blackpoll warblers while we gathered in the parking lot. However, we did not subsequently find any of them. What we did find included 7 other warbler species: Ovenbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Northern Waterthrush, American Redstart, Northern Parula, and Black-throated Blue Warbler.

In the exotics category: 3 Yellow-chevroned Parakeets flew over early, and others were heard later. We also encountered a number of Hill Mynas.

An Eastern Screech-Owl dozing halfway out of its hole was a treat, as was the brief appearance by a Pileated Woodpecker. Unfortunately, we missed a Scarlet Tanager that was seen early today. A late American Kestrel was a surprise.

Some Chimney Swifts flew by as we chatted in the parking lot at the end of the walk.

Herps seen today included four exotics: Knight Anole, Cuban Green Anole, Brown Anole, and Puerto Rican Crested Anole. One non-exotic herp was seen: Everglades Racer.
